Favorite Photo

This is the first picture I posted on this blog, just cropped slightly. I guess it's my favorite out of all the pictures we've had to take because of the lines, the depth perception (I think that's what it's called...) and just because of all the hidden water droplets.

The Best of Digital Photography Class

(Perspective, I guess)

(Framing)

(Lighting)

(Lighting/portraits)

(Learned I like reflections)

"Learn the rules, and then break them." Some of those rules driven into our heads this class was the 'rule of thirds,' which goes along with 'offset the subject, don't put it directly in the center of the frame.' Then there were helpful tips like start from the background of a picture, use an odd number of subjects, and portraits should show something about a person. Of course there's many more rules and tips but that's not exactly what this entry is about. It's about what I've learned. And so I've learned the idea to commit to an image. You don't have to show the whole subject you want, but commit to it; find a creative angle to take its picture from. Also the idea of framing your picture with use of the foreground or some object(s) also in the picture. To end, lighting. Morning and evening is best, and how inside light sucks - especially for portraits - so turn off the lights and put your subject in front of a window.

Photo Journalism

I figure this is appropriate since it is hunting season. Growing up in a very diverse area on hunting, I've heard both sides of the argument: to hunt or not to hunt. But then you throw in the Posted signs, which adds another level to the argument. The 'old timers' say they used to hunt everywhere and anywhere as long as they knew where the houses or others would be, but now with all the Posted signs, there's nowhere to  hunt. And then you get the small deer population and so if you have deer on your land, then that's good so put up Posted signs to keep others off.......... and so on and so forth.
I'm just wondering if the sign needs anymore staples in it...

Portraits. What is present that isn't present?

He asked what did I want him to do for the picture, and when I told him "this a portrait, how do you want people to see you?" this is what I got. So, 'looking beyond the picture,' if I didn't know who this was, I'd have to say he seems to be a pretty hyper person who is certainly not afraid to be himself. And he's the kind of person who always seems to be able to make you smile.

I just couldn't pick just one photo for this assignment...
First thing I see in this picture is that this guy is casual, laid back, and just easy going in general. In real life he is all that, except for most of the time after you get to know him.
So sometimes you can read the pictures 'correctly,' assuming things that aren't exactly there, but sometimes there's still more reading between the lines you have to do. (or get a better picture)

What are you selling?

This assignment was to take fashion photos or find a creative way to sell an item/advertise. A difficult task for someone who isn't into fashion or really understands advertising. But, if the assignment is to take a creative picture of something that means something to you or that you like...easier. Jeans were the answer. Along with boots and my Jeep Wrangler...but this was my favorite picture out of them all.

Just a pretty picture...?

It had been raining for days, and finally this was a full  day without a single drop falling from the sky. I was hoping to find that single droplet hanging from a leaf about to fall...but I found this instead.
